The brief

Look international, sell real materials

Velonna is the newer, contemporary side of a jewellery family business in Jammu and Kashmir. Its buyers are between 18 and 38. They like the look of international jewellery houses, and they want real silver and lab-grown diamonds at prices that are not luxury-house prices.

That makes the website do more work than usual. It has to look like the houses its buyers admire, and it has to earn trust with someone spending ₹20,000 or more on a screen.

What the store has to do

Two ranges, one store

Silver and lab-grown diamonds have different prices and different buyers. The homepage opens with two entry points, each with its own video tile, then splits again by piece type: rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants, bangles. The menu lists 34 categories across the two ranges.

Proof before a big purchase

Diamond pieces here run from about ₹20,000 to well over ₹1 lakh. A guarantee block on the homepage spells out 925 sterling silver, BIS-hallmarked gold, and care and support. Shipping and returns is one click away.

A person to ask

Every serious jewellery sale has a question in it. The homepage puts a WhatsApp enquiry and a phone number in plain view, with a promise to reply within 24 hours.

A catalogue people can search

The lab-grown range has 71 pieces. Collection pages filter by category, metal, gemstone, style, gender and price, and sort by best selling, price or date.

Real customers, not stock photos

A wall of in-store customer photos sits on the homepage, backed by a full reviews page.

Room to grow offline

Store locator, franchise page, gift cards and international shipping are all built in, and Watches and Collectibles have a coming-soon page ready in the menu.

The decisions

What we chose, and what we turned down

Most of this build was not drawing. It was picking one option and killing another, usually the easier one. Six calls shaped the store.

  • Two front doors, not one catalogue. The cheaper build drops silver and diamonds into the same grid and lets filters sort it out. We split the homepage into two entry points instead. A two-thousand-rupee silver ring and a one-point-seven-lakh diamond stud cannot share a price ladder — a silver buyer who meets the lakh-rupee piece first decides the whole shop is not for her. The price of the split is two of everything and a menu that runs to 34 categories. We paid it.
  • Six filters, no search box.Jewellery buyers do not know product names, so a search box returns nothing and reads as broken. They know “earrings, gold, under fifty thousand”. Collection pages filter by category, metal, gemstone, style, gender and price, and sort three ways. That is more filtering than most Shopify stores ship with, and it is where most of the build time went.
  • Trust on the homepage, not on a trust page. The guarantee block — 925 sterling silver, BIS-hallmarked gold, care and support — sits on the homepage rather than behind an About link. Doubt arrives in the second someone reads a six-figure price, not a page later. Shipping and returns stays one click away from anywhere in the store.
  • A phone number, not a contact form.Every serious jewellery sale has a question inside it, and above ₹20,000 that question gets asked before the card comes out. A form answers tomorrow. A WhatsApp enquiry and a phone number sit in plain view with a 24-hour reply promise, so the question gets answered inside the conversation the buyer is already having.
  • Customers in the shop, not models in a studio.A styled shoot proves a piece photographs well. A wall of in-store customer photographs proves somebody bought it and wore it out of the door. The homepage carries the wall; a full reviews page sits behind it.
  • Shelf space for a shop that does not exist yet.Store locator, franchise page, gift cards and international shipping went in before they were needed, and Watches and Collectibles have a coming-soon page waiting in the menu. The family business is growing offline. Navigation is cheap to build now and expensive to re-cut later.
